Lift Off Animation

This is a quick cartoon I created to test out the iPad app Animation Desk. I thought my grandson would enjoy the subject, so we have this rather than a traditional walk cycle.

Pirate Map

Found this while cleaning up my hard drive. I created it some time back, intending to add it to the coloring book I have online, but never got around to actually doing it. So, here it is. The maze was generated by a shareware program that I might have archived on a CD somewhere, but won’t run on OS X, so that put an end to its usefulness to me.

Snake

Here is a quick sketch that is designed to go on the safety flag on my grandson’s new bicycle that he got for Christmas.

iPhone Splash

This is the menu splash screen for the iPhone game we’re working on. I say iPhone, but plans are for the various other mobile phone platforms also in addition to the web.

Unicorn

Here’s a quick cartoon sketch that I had to get out of my system. I had been coming across the word unicorn so often in my surfing and so forth, that I figured someone was trying to tell me that I needed to create one. So here it is, insipid and sappy as I could make it and perfect for some little girl’s birthday party, both sketch and final color version.

Sketching a Cartoon Duck

This is my 100th post on this blog and because it’s been a while since I’ve created a sketch video, I thought I would crank one out in celebration. For some reason, maybe because as you can see, I wasn’t using a  brand new pencil, I didn’t seem to be as organized or logical in my drawing during this session. So due to my scattered sketching style, this time there isn’t any narration to help walk you through my process. But I hope you can still follow along well enough to get something usable out of it.

Starting Early

The Little Man is following in someone’s footsteps it seems. This was for a contest mom and dad and everyone else was unaware of until notice of his award came in the mail. Even the Artist had no idea he had an entry in the competition and no recollection of what he had drawn. We’ll post it when we get it back.

Happy Birthday Dr Seuss

The Cat In The Hat and I are the same age. And today is the birthday of the author, Dr. Seuss.

I have more than a few people to thank for giving me the gift of reading and Dr. Seuss is one of them. But words aren’t the only joy a young reader takes from reading his books; his wonderful illustrations and fantastic characters bring you back again and again.

Drawing in Class

Here are a couple of pics from last week when I stopped by my favorite grandson’s kindergarten class for an hour to sketch some cartoons. I think we ended up with about 10 or 12 sketches after I took requests for a horse, cow, dog, tiger, truck, race car, mermaid, bumblebee, and more.

It was busy that day and I was bumped from my early morning time slot to the hour right before lunch by the Magic Tooth Fairy. Really. She did magic tricks about teeth. So after my first half hour the kids began to get a bit restless, but even so, everyone had a great time.

While I was pulling these stills from the video, I got a very enthusiastic hug and kiss so I guess I must have made a nice memory for Christian.

Caveman Cartoon

Here’s a recent cartoon for a little league soccer team. I’ve also recently started using a brush pen for inking. It seems to give me a smoother and more dynamic line than the steel nibs. It’s very easy to get a broad stroke and transition to a fine line. It also encourages me to be looser with my inks and I like that.bashers
