Boat Sketch

Here is a client sketch that was approved, and the color version can be seen here. A few more rope ladders were added at the Illustrator stage after it had been inked.

Telescope

One of the projects I’m working on at the moment is an iPhone game, programmed by an independent developer. Below is one of the icons I banged out, uncharacteristically by Wacom tablet alone, no ink and paper version. The color was added via Illustrator and I’ve added the space background for this post. It won’t appear in the game version.

Fish sketch

Gone Fishing

Here’s another client reject that is on its way to getting finished. You can see a couple of minor changes in the pencil sketch vs the inked version, no lures, bigger smile and eyes.

Unicorn

Here’s a quick cartoon sketch that I had to get out of my system. I had been coming across the word unicorn so often in my surfing and so forth, that I figured someone was trying to tell me that I needed to create one. So here it is, insipid and sappy as I could make it and perfect for some little girl’s birthday party, both sketch and final color version.

Big Dog

A rejected client sketch for a jobs website.

Surfing Polar Bear

A project sketch in progress for a client.

Another Pig Post

It’s getting to be that time of year… the time of year that I get all sorts of requests for BBQ team logos. So I thought I would post another from sketch to finished color art. This one was colored in Illustrator rather than Photoshop because these types of illustrations are usually intended for t-shirts, aprons and trucks.

Pig Pickin’

A very quick, cleaned-up sketch of a pig pickin’ on a banjo, and the inked line art version, inspired by a request. We’ll post the color version on Thursday, Lord willin’ and the creek don’t rise.

Sketching a Cartoon Duck

This is my 100th post on this blog and because it’s been a while since I’ve created a sketch video, I thought I would crank one out in celebration. For some reason, maybe because as you can see, I wasn’t using a  brand new pencil, I didn’t seem to be as organized or logical in my drawing during this session. So due to my scattered sketching style, this time there isn’t any narration to help walk you through my process. But I hope you can still follow along well enough to get something usable out of it.
